Community rules
Recess is a place to play with friends, and with new people in public rooms. These rules keep it fun for everyone. They apply to everything: your name, your drawings, what you put on the big screen, your camera, your car's number plate and how you treat people.
Be kind
- No bullying, harassment, threats or hate, about anyone, for any reason.
- No pushing someone to hurt themselves, and no glorifying violence.
- Throwing a pie on stage is fine. Making someone feel unwelcome isn't.
Keep it clean
- No nudity, sexual content or sexual talk, in drawings, names, photos, videos, links or on camera. Ever.
- Nothing that sexualises young people. We report it to the authorities.
- No gore, drugs or anything illegal.
Keep it safe
- Don't share personal information: yours or anyone else's (real names, addresses, phone numbers, schools, social media).
- Don't ask anyone to meet up, move to another app, or send pictures.
- Don't pretend to be someone else, including us.
Play fair
- No spam, scams or ads.
- No cheating, exploiting bugs or deliberately wrecking someone else's game.
- Only put things on the big screen that you have the right to share.
- Don't try to get around a block, a removal or a ban.
Public rooms
Anyone can walk into a public room, so cameras, photos, uploaded videos, video files and web pages wait for a private room (one with a password, for friends). In a public room everyone can still pick YouTube, Vimeo and Twitch videos and the Vault's short films, play the games, draw films and get on stage.
Child safety
We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Any content or behaviour that sexualises, grooms, exploits or endangers a child is removed, the people involved are banned, and we report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the relevant authorities as the law requires. Report it in the app (choose Puts a young person at risk) or through the contact form. Online play is for ages 13 and up.
If something's wrong
- Report it: open Who's here, pick the player, and choose Report. You can also report what's on the big screen, or a film from your reel.
- Block them: they disappear from your screen (their name, words, drawings, picks and camera), and if you're hosting, they're out of your room for good.
- Hosts can remove players, take photos down and switch off anyone's camera on the big screen.
- Reports come to us. We aim to review every report within 24 hours. When three people in a room report the same player, the room removes them straight away.
Break the rules and we'll remove what you posted and may remove you from rooms or ban you, without warning. Serious harm, especially to children, is reported to the authorities.
